Student Organizations
A variety of student organizations exist as member groups of the SBA. (See the description of the SBA under section 10.6 above.) Many of the student organizations can be found on the Student Organization page.
Students who wish to form a new student organization should follow procedures established by the Student Bar Association (SBA), please see the SBA Constitution. A student group will be recognized as an SBA organization, and therefore be eligible for funding, if it meets all of the following requirements:
- There is an unmet need for an organization of the type currently being proposed
- The proposed organization meets that previously unmet need
- The proposed organization is open to all Law School students.
New student groups should provide the SBA executive board contacts with a statement addressing the requirements.
Please note: All student organizations must go through the recognition process every year. The fall '07 deadline for submitting this information (as well as budget requests) is September 9. Those student groups submitting proposals after this time will be considered for recognition and funding for the spring '08 semester. The SBA will consider all requests for recognition and inform the contacts for the proposed group of the outcome in a timely manner.
For recognition purposes, the SBA 2007-2008 executive board contacts are:
- Marc Berman, President, 213-740-5501, meberman@usc.edu
- Aly Parker, Vice President, arparker@usc.edu
The SBA will not distribute funds to a student organization until the organization has been officially recognized. Once recognized by the SBA, leaders of each student organization should complete the required form providing basic contact information via the Student Organization contact form to Debra Barnett in Student Affairs, Room 104. This information will be added to the Student Organizations website.
Student organizations are highly encouraged to also be recognized by the University's Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) to be eligible for additional funding through this organization. Instructions for getting recognized by GPSS are at http://www.usc.edu/org/gpss/resources_gpss_recognized.html.
Student Organizations may create homepages on the web. The web page, http://www.usc.edu/isd/userserv/accounts/accounts.org.html, provides information regarding these accounts.
There is also a limited Student Organization Travel budget available. Please see Section 10.8 for details.
