MediaSite

Introduction:

The MediaSite EX Server is setup at the Law School for usage internally and by the Keck School. It is currently setup in the recommended Sonic Foundry method of two servers with a Disk Array for storage. The front-end presentation server holds all the applications and is the name seen by the public, while the back-end server holds the database, videos, and images for every presentation. The server is divided in such a way that the instances for Keck and Law are completely distinct: separate database, separate folders for data & video, separate FTP locations, and separate System Managers. Below we will explain the different screens that are available within EX Server and the addresses for each of the screens. The username/password for these screens will be provided to you via a phone conference.

Category Manager :

The category manager allows you to add/update/delete categories and assign each category a specific layout. This is helpful for categorization in the viewer, that we will discuss in the upcoming section, and it is helpful for easy setup of a recording. The category manager can be accessed with the following two addresses:

Presentation Manager

The presentation manager allows you to create/update/delete presentations for recording. This is where you schedule a presentation and you can choose if to make it a live streaming recording or just a session to keep on the MediaSite drive without showing to the world. The interface is rather easy to use, but it involves choosing a category, presenter, and a streaming profile. The presentation manager can be accessed with the following two addresses:

Report Manager

The report manager is your palce to gather statistics about the who has been viewing your recordings and how many hits you are getting overall on every recording. The reports essentially parse out the IIS logs in a way that is legible and easy to understand. Pick a date range and the report for that period will be displayed. The report manager can be accessed with the following two addresses:

System Manager

System Manager is a client tool, and not a web tool which encompasses all of the items mentioned above. It is the administrator of MediaSite and allows you to control the configruation of paths, recordings, presenters, categories, and much more. We plan to limit the access of the System Manager to specific machines, so once installed please let us know the IP addresses of the machines and we will lock down the access using IPSec. The system manager can be downloaded below:

Viewer

The Viewer is the homepage that you can provide users to look through ALL your presentations and to browse any lecture that you have recorded and placed on the server. If you are doing strictly private lectures that should not be on the web then you might want to authenticate this page, but if you are doing lectures for an audience then you may leave this page as public/anonymous access. The viewer can be accessed with the following two addresses:
