Mr. Hummel is a trial lawyer based in the Los Angeles office of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips who has been lead trial counsel in major civil and criminal cases. In Fall 2009, he joins USC Law teaching Pretrial Advocacy.

He is chair of the firm's litigation division, which encompasses its commercial litigation, trial, appellate, and government litigation practices nationwide. He is also a member of the firm's board of directors and executive committee.  In addition to his trial practice, Mr. Hummel represents clients in all phases of complex civil litigation, criminal prosecutions, and government investigations. He has successfully represented healthcare providers, manufacturers, motion picture studios and other entertainment companies, media and internet providers, intellectual property owners, airlines, aerospace firms, gaming institutions, banks and savings and loans, finance companies, computer and software firms, and insurance companies in federal and state courts throughout the country. His criminal jury trials have involved allegations of complex frauds, antitrust violations, tax fraud and evasion, money laundering, and RICO.  His successful antitrust trial work has involved allegations of price fixing, monopolization, exclusive dealing, tying, and other forms of alleged unfair competition. He has also advised numerous companies in structuring and implementing corporate compliance programs which comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizational defendants.

Mr. Hummel earned his A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University, and his J.D. from University of Chicago Law School.
