Rachel Heald
Lecturer in Law
Rachel Heald is a panel attorney for the California Parole Advocacy Program, providing counsel and representation for California parolees in return-to-custody hearings. She is an adjunct professor at USC Law, teaching legal writing and advocacy.
Ms. Heald received her B.A. summa cum laude from University of Missouri School of Journalism and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was editor-in-chief of “Law Weekly” newspaper. She spent five years as an associate attorney in New York and L.A., working on a range of federal and state civil and white collar cases. She also was a contract legal writer on topics as varied as contracts and real estate before joining The Education Trust – West from 2003-04 as a policy analyst/press writer.
Among Ms. Heald’s publications are two reports she co-authored, published by The Education Trust: “AYP & API: Why the New Federal Measure is a Crucial Complement to California’s Accountability System” (2004) and “Proposition 54: How a Lack of Information Will Destroy Efforts to Help California’s Minority Children Succeed in School” (2003).
