Jim Arnone practices land use and environmental law, focusing on high-controversy real estate developments and local government-related disputes. He has taught Environmental Law at USC since 1997.

At Latham and Watkins, Mr. Arnone advises clients and litigates matters involving a wide range of state and federal environmental and land use laws, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the federal and California “Superfund” laws, the Clean Air Act and regional air quality regulations, the Clean Water Act and state and local water quality regulations, the Endangered Species Act, the California Coastal Act, historic preservation laws, California’s “Proposition 65,” California’s “Unfair Competition Law,” and nuisance and trespass law.

Mr. Arnone received a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he graduated cum laude and was a senior editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. While in school, he was an intern for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region I, Superfund Enforcement Branch, Office of Regional Counsel. More recently, he served on Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo’s transition team and senior advisor group. He is a board member of the Ketchum-Downtown YMCA and of AIDS Project Los Angeles. He previously served on the executive committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section, where he chaired its Land Use, Litigation and Insurance, and Legislation Review committees.
