Alma Stankovic, currently a 3L, is one of the student research assistants at the Office of Public Service (OPS).
Originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alma has also lived in Stuttgart, Germany, which she considers a second hometown, before moving to Los Angeles in 1999. After finishing high school, Alma first obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science from the Los Angeles Harbor Community College in Wilmington, California, before she transfered to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She graduated from UCLA in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, focusing on international relations during her studies. She also completed a Minor in German at UCLA.
Alma then entered USC Law as member of the Class of 2008. In her years here, she has participated in several public service related projects, including volunteering at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, the Garment Workers' Center, and Bet Tzedek. Alma spent her 1L summer externing at the HIV and AIDS Legal Services, Inc. (HALSA), where she worked with the resident discrimination attorney in helping clients resolve issues of discrimination based on their status as persons with HIV or AIDS.
Alma has also played a leadership role in student organizations and extracurricular activities at USC Law, including the Public Interest Law Foundation, the La Raza Latino Law Student Association, and the Review of Law and Social Justice.
Currently, Alma is externing with the a United States Magistrate Judge, while also working at the OPS. After graduation, Alma hopes to spend at least a year or two on a fellowship program in her home country of Bosnia and Herzegovina working on legal and political reform in the nacent democracy before pursuing her dream of working in International Human Rights Law.
